A Rave alternative for browser watch parties

Cliqroom is a free Rave alternative for watching supported links in a browser. Create a room with synced playback, a shared queue, and text chat without an app download or a Cliqroom account.

Create a free room

Start with the video you want to watch. Cliqroom fits a queue of supported media links; Rave offers installed apps with its own service integrations.

  • Join through a browser link
  • No Cliqroom account required
  • Shared queue and text chat

Choose based on the video and the setup

A browser invite or an installed app

Rave offers apps for phones and computers. Cliqroom opens as a web app, so friends can join your room without installing a Cliqroom app or extension. Both approaches depend on the media source and the devices your group uses.

Free tools, separate content charges

Rave says its app is free, with optional Premium to remove ads. Cliqroom is also free and has no paid tier. Rave lists Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and other subscription services; its FAQ says the relevant paid subscriptions are required. Pick a tool that supports your chosen service before inviting friends.

Try one YouTube video with a friend

Use a short public YouTube video for your first room. Check that it plays for both of you before you build the queue for the evening.

  1. Create the room. Open Cliqroom in your browser and choose Create room.
  2. Add the video. Paste the video link into the media field, then select its preview to add it to the queue.
  3. Send the room link. Copy the invitation link from the invite dialog and send it to your friend.
  4. Check playback together. Have your friend open the link in their browser. Tap play if needed, then try the shared playback controls before adding more videos.

Check the source before planning the party

Cliqroom has players for YouTube, Twitch, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and SoundCloud, plus direct media URLs that your browser can play. Each person still needs access to the chosen content. A link being accepted does not guarantee that the source permits playback in the room.

Spotify playback is currently unavailable. Netflix and Disney+ are not native Cliqroom sources. Screen sharing is a separate workflow, with capture and audio depending on the source, browser, and device; do not assume it provides the same service support as Rave.

Tap play if your phone stays silent

A browser can block automatic playback with sound until you interact with the page. Tap the player and check its volume if the video stays paused or silent. Keep the room visible while testing, and check the chosen video on the same phones you plan to use.

If one friend buffers, pause the room while they check their connection and the source video. Shared controls cannot remove source restrictions or guarantee identical timing on every device.
